Online Texas Hold em Poker: A Great Entertainment Value

In a time when the price of gasoline has made travel in the United States very unappealing for the average American, poker players have an excellent alternative: playing Texas Hold'em online.

Rather than traveling to Vegas to play poker, or a nearby casino, all poker players have to do is log onto the internet. Whether you play for free or play for money, online poker is truly a great entertainment value. For little or no money, you can play cards against people from all over the world without leaving the comfort of your own home. There are not very many other hobbies that offer this kind of option.

Don't want to sit in a smoky casino? No problem, log on and play.

Don't want to spend hours of time and hundreds of dollars in gas driving to the nearest casino that offers a good Texas Hold em game? No problem. Log on and find a game in the dollar amount that suits your budget, starting any time, 24 hours a day.

The costs and hassles of air travel keeping you from playing those Sit n Go's at the Mirage? No problem, log onto Full Tilt or PokerStars and find pretty much any game you could want.

Poker players are in the unique position of having a huge online network to access our favorite hobby. We can sharpen our game, win money, entry into bigger tournaments, or just play for free. For less than the cost of going to a movie, you can play a tournament on PokerStars like the Sunday Hundred Grand (cost is $11) and possibly win $25k or more. Last Sunday I spent 3-4 hours playing this tournament. I didn't end up winning a ton of money, although I did finish in the money, but I got a lot of entertainment out of that $11!

The point is, online poker is fun and can be profitable. I know players who had never played internet Texas Hold em and once they started, they love it so much it has become a daily pastime. I know players who made fun of the game until they tried it online and realized the incredible level of competition that exists at all levels. Once they realized how they could sharpen their game by playing online, they now play more online than they do live.

If you have never tried it, give it a try. Online poker may turn out to be more fun than you thought it could be.
