Interner Poker Coach on ICM BOT Poker Software

Recently I was asked a question by a fellow online player about my opinion of the ICM-BOT poker software. Since I thought this was a great question and it got me to thinking about a number of poker related things, I thought it worth a post.

The answer to the question is, I don’t think much about the ICM-BOT  software.
I guess you have to decide why you are playing the game; if you are playing it because you like poker and you want to improve AND make money, then obviously this software is junk. If you are simply trying to find a way to make a few dollars, then this ICM-BOT software could possibly do the job. Not being a computer programmer, I would not presume to argue the point with them. If they say it works and are prepared to back it with a guarantee of some sort, then I would be inclined to agree with them.
That said, my attitude is, what’s the point?
I mean, lets face it, I could have a machine hit a golf ball better and more consistently than I can. I could probably get a computer programmed to going fishing for me as well and analyze where the fish are, and cast the bait for me! I could get a machine to play a musical instrument accurately. I could get a computer to play chess better than I can, or cribbage, or pinochle. I could…….

You see my point. If your goal is to see who has the best machine, then more power to you. I play poker, however,  because I love it and love the mental challenge of the game. If you simply have a program play for you, you take away the appeal, at least for me. However, if you are looking at it strictly from a money making point of view, anything could work, I guess.

In the future, I see this: 2 camps for activities like online poker. One for those of us who are purists and love the game and love to pit our own mental capacities against another HUMAN. Two for those who want to see whose technology and software is best and let the best computer win. As individuals, it is up to you to decide which camp you want to be in. For me, a future of machines doing many things and taking the place of humans interacting with each other is all too achievable. Such a thing has no appeal to me, and in my opinion, no place in online poker.
