Tips on Poker Strategy

Sometimes I wonder why poker players come to me for coaching. I wonder why they read my book. I wonder why they ask me about poker strategy.

Well, it all becomes clear when I get an email from Full Tilt like I did the other day. In case you haven't noticed, Full Tilt sends out "Tips from the Pros" video clips that supposedly have some nuggets of wisdom that will help improve your poker game.

Here is Howard Lederer's latest tip: "Its a good idea to bet. Here is a classic example: bet with A-Qs from the Button"

  NO SHIT??????

If you don't know to raise from position with a good hand, then take up knitting, because poker is not the game for you! Who exactly is this little tip addressed to?

Great tip Howard! With all the money Full Tilt rakes in, the best you can come up with is that players should bet with A-Qs from position? WOW!!!!

No wonder people come to me for coaching on how to actually make money. Keep up the good work Howard. I know I will have no shortage of real poker players coming to me for advice as long as Full Tilt continues to shit out turds like that.

    Get real.

Mini Series of Poker

I have not been playing a ton of poker on Full Tilt lately, having switched to PStars for a while, mainly just for a change. However, the Mini Series of Poker Events are going on Full Tilt right now to coincide with the WSOP events and these are some great tournaments with nice prize pools.

As you probably know there are 57 events that match the event being played that day at the WSOP in Vegas, except the buy in for the Full Tilt event is exactly 1 1/100 of its WSOP counterpart. So, today's $100+$9 Razz event at 8pm EST is being played to match the $10k Razz event at the Rio. These games are bringing in a lot of pros, but there are some great prize purses to go with them and they are well worth playing. I believe there is a $22 Limit Hold'em game taking place today as well. In any case, if you are on Full Tilt, look into these events and also check out the satellites to them, there are some pretty sweet satellites, in particuliar the Super Turbos.

Massive $1 Main Event Qualifier On Full Tilt

Timing is running out to win your 2010 WSOP Main Event seat for only $1.10! Full Tilt is continuing with their Main Event seat qualifier promotion that has been (and will be) taking place every Sunday at 1:30pm EST. For only $1.10 you can win your way into the Main Event in Vegas. Not only is your $10,000 buy in paid, but you will also get $2,000 for spending money.

Now the bad news: there are only 5 seats awarded every Sunday and you will be up against about 30k-40k other players. As of this writing, there are still about 3 hours until the tournament begins and there are already nearly 19k players signed up. So, yes, the odds are not good and there is a ton of competition, but Hey, for $1.10, you will not find a better opportunity to win $12k, that's for sure.

So, if you have some time or are playing poker on a Sunday anyway, get on Full Tilt and look for the Main Event qualifier, somebody has to win!

Main Event NL Hold'em Coming up this Sunday

The newest FTOPS promo on Full Tilt will conclude with a massive Main Event this Sunday, May 2nd. It is a NL Hold'em event with a $600+$40 buy in that has a whopping $3 Million prize pool. It will probably bring a lot of players, but the $640 entry fee will slow done some of the donks. Since there are still several days until the event, if you want to play in it, but don't want to shell out for the full buy in, there are plenty of satellites available.  Just scroll through the tournament satellites listed in blue and look for ones for the ME.

Stud/8 Event tonight which I will be playing in and there is a $300+$22 Razz coming up on Friday. Sunday will also bring a variation of the Sunday KO with a $240+$16 KO event that has a $1 Million guarantee.

Lots of cool tournaments coming up to round out this FTOPS, make sure you get in on some and get a piece of these huge prize pools

Poker On Sunday-Knocked Out of the Knockout

Well, had some decent smaller tournaments, made the final table in a HORSE, Omaha h/l, and a Stud MTT, but got KO'd about 3 hours or so into the big FTOPS $129 knockout tournament, so no $132k 1st place finish for me! I did get stacked up after the first hour or so and had 3 KO's, so I was able to recoup 1/2 of my buy in, but after that it was suck-out city. I had 3 more knockouts that I thought I had only to lose to a suck out on the river and in the end, had some guys draw out hands to put me out, but it was a fun tournament even though I didn't money. Of course, the other nice thing about these KO's is that you can still get some money back even if you don't finish in the money.

Today is an Omaha/8 $200+$16 PLO event that I may play in if I have time and my day goes smoothly. Otherwise, it will probably the PLO Rush KO tournament tomorrow which sounds like a total crap shoot, but probably a lot of fun to play in. See you at the tables!
