Goodbye Jamarcus!!!

I am really broken up about the Raiders releasing Jamarcus Russell. If only they could have gone on paying him $200k per completion, then Charlie Frye probably could have kept his job!  I have not seen an NFL player that made Ryan Leaf look like a hard working, smart player, until good old Jamarcus. (and I never thought I would)

Rather than grouse about the fact that the Raiders made a bad draft choice and paid a total bum and unreal amount of money, I would like to use this instance to point out to the NFL how broken a system is that pays unproven rookies 10's of millions of dollars. If the NBA can mandate that players go to at least one year, of college, certainly the NFL can put a cap on the amount that teams can pay rookies, whether they are #1 draft picks or not. Oakland is not the first team to make this mistake, and it hamstrings teams, is totally unfair to veterans, and in general just bad for the league. Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, David Carr, Ji-jana Carter, Tim Couch, the list goes on and on of guys who were paid a ton of money never to produce squat in the NFL.

Fix the system, and the Jamarcus's of the league will not be clogging up Sunday afternoons with their out of shape, over-paid, slacker-asses! In the mean time, hopefully Russell will have fun with the Rams or the Chiefs, or the Browns, or whatever dumb-ass organization picks him up next. Raider fans will not miss him one bit, that is for sure. Thanks for sucking, Jamarcus!

Broncos Add Final Piece of Puzzle With Brady Quinn

Well, the Denver Broncos in their continued attempt in recent years to make the Oakland Raiders look well managed, have made another stellar move with the addition of quarterback Brady Quinn. Quinn be join the hall of fame laden quarterback roster of Kyle Orton and Chris Simms, making Bronco fans wonder 'what the hell?' and Raider fans wonder 'can we win 6 games this year?'

Why in the world Brady Quinn would seem like a logical addition to a team with quarterback issue, I have no idea but the front office decisions being made in Denver the last couple of years seem to be modeled after the Raiders, and indeed, make some Raider decisions look smart. Unless the Raiders pull Tim Couch out of retirement, I am not sure a more bone-headed move could be made. I will give you 2-1 that Brandon Marshall will not make it to training camp in a Bronco uniform, so I guess then Denver can utilize a 'wildcat' type of formation with Quinn throwing to Orton lined up in the slot.

In any case, it does my heart good as a Raider fan to see Denver fighting with Oakland and KC so hard for that cellar position in the division. If we can just get San Diego to bring back Ryan Leaf then all will be well and we will see competition in the West again!  Maybe Al Davis is on the right track?

NFL Hall of Fame Without Tim Brown?

Once again, in a show of total ineptness, the morons who vote players into the NFL Hall of Fame left out Tim Brown, Cris Carter, and Shannon Sharpe, while managing to elect Ricky Jackson and Russ Grimm!?!?!??

What the hell is that about? I mean come on, I guess the HOF in the NFL is bound to be as big a joke as MLB, but you would like to think that 2 of the all time 4 wide outs in NFL history could make it in, especially one that suffered without a valid quarterback for most of his career in Tim Brown. At least Carter had a prime Randall Cunningham and Culpepper in his career, while Brown suffered through the likes of Jeff George, Jay Schroeder,  and Todd Marinovich. I wonder what his numbers would have been if he would have played with anybody decent other than Rich Gannon for a couple of years.

In any case, I think guys like Brown should be recognized for the classy ways they conducted themselves throughout their careers rather than just numbers. The same goes for Cris Carter, and while I personally find Shannon Sharpe about as appealing as a root canal, he was the top tight end in the league for at least a 6-8 year period and his production was incredible. Russ Grimm was a nice OL, but can you really tell me he did more for the position than Shannon Sharpe? And who the hell is Ricky Jackson? I mean he was a nice linebacker, but I could think of about 20 others of the top of my head who are at least as deserving as he is.

Sure, Tim Brown will get in and so will Carter and Sharpe. But, when you know you are going to elect them anyway, why play these stupid games of making them wait a couple of years? Grow up, NFL HOF voters!!!
