Knockout Tournament Today $800K Guaranteed

If you are a fan of the KO format in poker tournaments like I am, gear up for the big daddy of Knockouts today at 2pm EST. FT's FTOPS Events #25, a $240+$16 NL Hold'em 6-max tournament is going to be played with an $800k prize purse. This is enough money to get excited about in and of itself, but when you consider the $40 you get each time you knock a player out, this ends up being a real money maker of a tournament and one not to miss if you love KO formats.

I am playing a couple of satellites right now and they will be going for the next few hours, just look for events with a K in blue under the 'tournament' tab and you should be able to find them with no problem. Otherwise, buy right in to event #25 here in about 5 hours and get your share of a big prize pool with alot of bounties to be won.

How to Play Satellite Poker Tournaments

Those of us that play on Full Tilt have no doubt noticed the FTOPS events that are taking place right now and all the satellites that go along with them. One of the best things about FT is the plethora of satellites available to allow you to get into all of these higher buy in tournaments on the cheap. If you are just paying the buy in when you want to enter an FTOPS event, you are probably wasting money.

One of the keys is waiting for the satellites that take place in the last 2-3 hours leading up to the event itself. These ones usually offer the most seats for the least amount of money. For example, I was not planning on playing event #14 the $535 buy in $300k HORSE tournament last night. I was goofing around on the computer and noticed some $24 satellites for this event. To make a long story short, I played 2 of these events and won entry by finishing 5th in one. (I almost made it in both, but busted in 13th place in the other!) So, for a total of $52, I had a $535 buy in, pretty good leverage on your money. The other great thing is that if you win more than one, FT will simply credit your account with the buy in amount, in this case $535, in tournament dollars which you can convert to cash or simply use to buy into any other tournaments on FT.     These satellites are a great deal and many people play them religiously and do quite well with them, including many of the pros on Full Tilt. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

Nightly H.O.R.S.E Poker Tournament

I am just starting the nightly HORSE tournament on FTP. If you area a HORSE fan, this is a $26 buy in that starts every night at 10:15 EST. It has  a $4,000 guarantee and is one of the more popular tournaments for HORSE players that you will find online with normally about 200-ish entrants. First place yields $1100 and more depending on how many players sign up, so there is some nice money to be won. You can usually find a hand full of pros playing this one and it is one that I play probably 5 times a week or so. HORSE tournaments that pay well are hard to find on most sites, if you are looking for one, try the nightly HORSE on FTP

Knockout Poker Tournaments

One of the best values on FT and a tournament that I make a large portion of my winnings from is the 90-player knockouts.  These are a afun tournament to play and you can buy in at $3, $6, $12, $24, and $48 so there is a price point for everybody. The great thing about these tournaments is that it is a killer leverage on your money. Winning pays 24x your buy in, so you don't have to win that great a percentage of the time to make them very profitable. Plus you get all you KO bounties instantly credited to your account so you can really increase your ROI with a few knockouts every time you play.

The 90-player SnG's are running on FT all the time and they do fill up fast, so if you like MTT's that don't take forever and involve thousands of entrants, check out these tournaments. I play them all the time, you should give them a try.

How to Win Online Poker Freerolls

Obviously there is a lot that goes into winning a MTT online and this is not enough space for me to cover everything that would make you a sucess. For that, you will need to check out my book, The No B.S. Guide to Winning Online No Limit Texas Hold'em. However, there is one very large tip that I can give you that is overlooked by about 90%-95% of the players playing these freerolls: DON'T BLUFF!!!

Sounds simple right? Many people assume freerolls are just a big free for all, where nothing but luck is a factor. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. What these freerolls are full of, are novice players, and players who have watched too much tv where the pro backs down the amatuer with nothing more than a 9-high. How to beat these players down? Don't get into big pots unless you have the best hand!

For example, here is a simple mistake made about 10,000 times in every large freeroll. A player in mid position gets A-K. He raises to 4x the BB. Of course, since it is a freeroll, both blinds make the call and maybe one or 2 other players as well. The flop comes 9-6-2 rainbow. The player with A-K bets the pot, gets re-raised all-in by the BB and is put out of the tournament when the BB flips over 6-2 for 2 pair.

FOUL!!!! DONK!!!! YOU SUCK!!!! Calls the player with A-K. Full Tilt is rigged for the DONKS!!!!

No, it isn't. What happened was, that player fell in love with A-K (powerful hand) and forgot about his surroundings. He was called because he was in a freeroll. Nobody cares about the chips, they didn't cost anything, they are going to call with pretty much any hand. Taking that into account, shut it down with your A-high after the flop. SOMEBODY HAS SOMETHING. Whether or not they should be in the hand is immaterial.

If you don't hit anything, get out of the hand because you cannot push someone around if the chips don't matter. Bluff? Please, in a freeroll I don't even continuation bet much. You are waiting to hit your hand and then punish the novice players who call with anything. Any other strategy is likely to put you on the rail.
