If you are currently playing poker on PokerStars, you are probably aware of the wide variety of tournaments that are currently being offered on their site. Not to sound like an advertisement for PokerStars, but they are really offering some great deals to play in their tournaments. Again, I am not trying to talk you into playing on PokerStars if you don’t already, but because of their massive traffic level, they offer some really incredible values. In much the same way you would bargain shop for a car, you owe it to yourself to get the most bang out of your poker budget as possible. That is why I suggest looking into some of these tournaments.
First, the Sunday 100 grand is always a great one to try your luck in. For only $10+$1 buy in, you can play in a tournament with a minimum of $100,000 prize pool. Many times it is much higher even than that! You will have to have some staying power to make the money, however, this is the largest tournament currently online, with 22,500 entrants and it fills up fast every week. I recommend buying-in several hours ahead of time or you may find it already filled up. (Start time is 12:30 PST).The top 3300 player are paid.
Another couple of rich prize pools are found in the Sunday Warm-up and the Sunday Million tournaments. Each one is a $200+$15 buy in and they offer a prize pool of $500,000 and $1,000,000 respectively. There is a lot of money to be made in these two tournaments week in and week out. The nice thing is,if the $200+$15 is more than you want to spend, there are satellites running constantly from as little as $2-$3 entry fees or free, simply by using your FFPs. (frequent player points) You can’t beat free, when you are talking about getting into a tournament that guarantees a million dollar prize pool!
If you miss those two Sunday specials, there is still a Sunday Second chance tournament with the same $200+$15 buy in, and an only slightly less rich prize pool of $200,000. You might also look at the $109 re-buy tournament where the prize pool regularly reaches $100k+. For you bargain hunters, there are also $11 re-buys with $45k and $55k guaranteed pay-outs.
Something new that PokerStars is offering is their Turbo Takedown tournament. This is really the best “deal” that I have found in online poker. Its pretty simple: the last Sunday of every month, this tournament has a $1,000,000 (yes $1 million) prize pool with a 5,000 FFP buy in. This is unheard of in the realm of poker. You can play in a tournament with a million bucks available and it doesn’t cost you a penny to enter, just your FFP points! Plus, for those that do not have 5,000 points, you can also play satellites for as little as 10 FFP to win your entry. Again, there is nothing that even comes close to offering you this kind of payout with basically a “free” buy in.
So, if you play on PokerStars already, or if you have been thinking about it, you really need to give some of these tournaments a chance, at whatever dollar value you are comfortable with. You will not be out much, relatively speaking, and the potential wins are massive.
